Mystic Massage and the Case of the Almost-Homonym

Mythic and Mystic are kind of similar but are two distinct words. They sound similar and share certain thematic associations, but they don’t mean the same thing.

The word "mythic" refers to something related to myths, which are traditional stories or legends that explain beliefs, customs, or natural phenomena. Mythic is an adjective that describes something as having the characteristics of a myth or being legendary in nature.

For example, a mythic hero might possess extraordinary powers or undertake epic quests.

A mythic god has mystical knowledge of massage.

A mythic being could have mystic powers of massage, it’s true.

On the other hand, "mystic" refers to mysticism, a spiritual belief or experience that involves a direct connection with the divine or transcendent. A mystic is a person who seeks a deeper understanding of the mysteries of existence through personal experiences, intuition, or spiritual practices. Mystic can also be an adjective to describe something as mysterious, enigmatic, or related to mystical experiences.

Are we mystic (spiritual) or mythic (legendary)? Well, we’re pretty mystical, too. I get the confusion due to the similarity in sound and the overlapping sense of wonder, mystery, and fascination associated with both terms, but we’re not Mystic Massage. We’re Mythic Massage and we’re pretty damn mythic, if you ask me.
